First off, we’re not going to talk about the OU game. Its in the past and if there is one thing we Texas fans don’t do. It’s dwell in the past.
What can we really even pin the loss on?
The refs? Maybe… there were a lot of missed calls.
The sloppy start from Texas? Possibly. Quinn was 31/37 for 346 YDS so its 100% not on him.
The fact that I was looking at CFP Natty ticket prices the entire week leading up to the game?
These details don’t matter because the road to Arlington starts Saturday vs Houston
Led by the red bull chugging Dana Holgorsen, Houston sits at 3-3 heading into Texas week.
Tough losses to TCU, Rice* and Tech have been the only set backs for an improving Houston squad.
Let’s see what the word is.
*lmao they lost to Rice?!
A little History
Texas leads the all-time series 16-7
Other than Tom Herman, UT & UofH don’t have a lot of notable history…
‘90 - DKR’s loudest game?
One of the marquee victories during the shock the nation tour.
The Horns, led by Peter Gardere (notable pearl street legend) whipped #3 Houston 45-24
‘01 - Bleachergate (look it up)
Supposedly Deloss Dobbs said Texas would never play in that stadium again. Yet here we are.
‘02 - First game I actually remember
Roy Williams was such a freak.
What The Coaches Are Saying
Dana Holgorsen
Dana low key seems like he has a multi-level marketing scheme on the side.
Sark After Dark
I really hope Sark works out at Texas, TBH.
What The Prognosticators Are Saying
Umm… so this game isn’t generating a lot of buzz from the national media so here’s a preview from….. Texas Homer.
Inside Texas - Rod Babers & Ian Boyd
This is a really good break down by Rod B & Ian.
What Vegas Thinks
Horns -23.5
Sark said the Horns are “a little pissed off’’ coming out of the bye week so….uhhhh.
What Scott Fisher Thinks
Its being played in Houston so probably hot and humid.
What I Think
I spent the entire bye week listening to history podcasts so clearly I took the loss in stride.
The fact of the matter is:
1) the dreams of NRG are very much still alive
2) Quinn still hibachied bama.
We are alright.
I have watched a little* Houston football this year and two things stick out.
1) They are awful on defense. Like Austin Java bad.
*Narrator: “ ‘a little’ actually means none at all”
2) Their offense is pretty nasty. Donavan Smith killed Texas in a very Dillon Gabriel like way last year in Lubbock so expect Holgersen to try and replicate that. Plus, Houston has a lot of really good WR talent including the current Little 12 leader in yards.
This is the 3rd best offense Texas will face in 2023.
If the Boys have fixed their defense mistakes during the bye week… Texas by 50
If not…. well this might be a shootout.
Please win guys.
PS - I’m looking to change the name of this substack, so comment any ideas. I doubt anyone actually reads this far but hey you never know
